Screwworm outbreak cripples cattle trade, costs jobs and raises beef prices

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The closure of Santa Teresa’s cattle crossing due to a screwworm outbreak is having a significant impact on the borderland economy, costing jobs and driving up beef prices.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture shut down the crossing in May after the parasite was found in cattle in parts of Mexico.
