Crowds flock to 79th N.C. Apple Festival as vendors celebrate fruitful opening day

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — It was a great opening day for the 79th North Carolina Apple Festival on Friday, Aug. 29.

At times, it appeared crowds reached 3,000 to 4,000 people. With dry but moderate weather, it wasn’t stifling hot.

For sale, all things apples, from fritters to donuts to apple ice cream to apple funnel cakes and apple cider. Fourteen local apple growers on Main Street stayed busy selling apple slushies and apples of all varieties from Gala to Honey Crisp…
