Gulfport’s GeckoFest is a quintessential Florida summer experience

Get ready to embrace Gulfport’s quirky charm as the 25th annual GeckoFest takes over downtown on Saturday, August 30, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 3000 Beach Blvd. S. The free, family-friendly celebration transforms Beach and Shore boulevards into a lively waterfront festival with live music, street performers, local art, food vendors, and interactive entertainment.

This year’s theme, “Still Weird,” pays tribute to Gulfport’s creative spirit and bohemian vibe. Visitors can expect a day filled with artistry, laughs, and surprises. “We’re a hub for artists, musicians, writers, and all kinds of creatives,” said event organizer Suzanne King. “GeckoFest is a tribute to that energy and the wonderfully unique character of our community.”

Gulfport GeckoFest is still weird after all these years

Festivalgoers are encouraged to embrace the theme by dressing in imaginative and eccentric costumes. At 6 p.m., the annual wacky walking parade kicks off, inviting attendees to strut their stuff and showcase their creativity. Immediately after, the party continues with a birthday celebration for G. Gordon McFly, Gulfport’s newest gecko sculpture and a photo op designed by local marine artist Ray Domingo.

Throughout the day, performers will bring nonstop energy to the streets. Acrobats, magicians, dancers, fire eaters, aerialists, balloon artists, and costumed characters will keep the crowd entertained. Guests can interact with performers, join in on magic tricks, and catch stunts perfect for photos.

A celebration of local makers and artists

GeckoFest also highlights Gulfport’s creative community, featuring local makers, independent businesses, and handcrafted goods. Food vendors will line the streets with sweet and savory bites, complementing the city’s locally loved restaurants. Shopping at GeckoFest vendors and Gulfport boutiques supports homegrown businesses, making it easy to take home a unique souvenir…
