The Pickett Fire has left a trail of destruction across Napa County, tearing through vineyards and devastating beekeeping operations in one of California’s most valuable agricultural regions.
Growers say millions of dollars in crops may be lost, not only from vines consumed by flames but also from smoke that lingered long enough to threaten grapes still on the vine. Beekeepers are reporting heavy losses as hives were destroyed, jeopardizing honey production and pollination services that nearby farms rely on.
The full cost of the damage is still being tallied, but early estimates already show staggering losses.
