Accused Shrewsbury shooter saw machete assault charges dropped last month

SHREWSBURY — The Shrewsbury man accused of fatally shooting a man who caught him spray-painting Aug. 28 had serious assault charges dropped last month after a process in which he was committed for psychiatric evaluation multiple times, records show.

Snehal A. Srivastava, 26, was sent to, and released from, Bridgewater State Hospital multiple times since an alleged machete attack in 2022, court records show, before charges against him were dismissed for “lack of prosecution” July 15 in Westborough District Court.

Srivastava’s lawyer in the 2022 case told the Telegram & Gazette Friday, Aug. 29, he believes prosecutors handled the case appropriately. A spokesperson for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr. declined to comment, citing professional rules of conduct governing open cases…
