South Plains and Rolling Plains Flood Watch: Roads Could Flood Through Sunday Morning

Lubbock, Texas – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to drench the Texas Panhandle and South Plains beginning late Saturday, with the National Weather Service issuing multiple Flood Watches through Sunday morning. Drivers across Lubbock, Amarillo, and surrounding counties could see dangerous conditions as runoff quickly overwhelms low-water crossings and urban drainage systems.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Lubbock and Amarillo, storms fueled by high Gulf moisture will begin firing by late afternoon and intensify into the night. The Flood Watch for the South Plains, Rolling Plains, and far southern Panhandle begins at 4 p.m. Saturday and continues until Sunday morning, while areas farther north—including Amarillo, Canyon, and Pampa—remain under a watch from 5 p.m. until midnight.

Counties at risk include Randall, Potter, Hale, Crosby, Childress, and Lamb, along with smaller communities such as Floydada, Dimmitt, and Clarendon.
