Amarillo, Texas – Severe thunderstorms will sweep into the Texas Panhandle Friday evening, bringing hail, strong winds, and the potential for localized flooding as storms linger overnight into Saturday.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, storms could begin as early as 5 p.m., with the most widespread and intense activity expected between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m. Hazards include hail up to the size of half dollars, wind gusts reaching 60 mph, and heavy rainfall capable of producing 1 to 2 inches per hour.
Communities from Dalhart and Stratford east through Amarillo, Borger, Pampa, and Clarendon face the greatest risk of flash flooding. Low-lying roads and poorly drained areas may quickly flood, especially along I-40 and secondary highways.
