Red Line disrupted after person struck by train at Van Ness Metro Station

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — Trains on Metro’s Red Line were experiencing delays Sunday morning after a train struck a person at the Van Ness- UDC Metro Station, according to officials.

Details are limited; however, in a post on X at 8:40 a.m., Metro said trains were single-tracking between Van Ness and Friendship Heights after a person was struck by a train at the Van Ness station.

In a later update, Metro said trains were still single-tracking between the two stations, but were also bypassing Van Ness due to the heavy presence of responders. In addition, officials closed trains between Dupont Circle and Friendship Heights and were working to implement shuttles.

At the Van Ness-UDC Metro Station, several police cars could be seen lining the sidewalk to the station’s entrance.
