Ventura Man Charged with Forcible Rape and Kidnapping in Assault near Thille Park

On August 28th, Ventura County prosecutors charged Kevin Guerrero, age 25, with the violent sexual assault of a woman as she walked near Thille Park earlier this month. The Ventura County District Attorney’s office is leveling multiple charges against Guerrero, including forcible rape and kidnapping with the intent to commit rape. Joey Buttitta, the Communications Manager for the District Attorney’s office, released details of a the accusations levied against Guerrero, which involve him allegedly dragging her into the bushes off Thille Street and assaulting her on August 11th.

According to an official release, the incident took place while the victim was walking westbound past the park. Guerrero is said to have covered the victim’s mouth to stifle her cries for help during the assault. He was apprehended by Ventura Police Department on August 20, after allegedly fleeing the scene of the crime. Senior Deputy District Attorney Benjamin Moreno, part of the Sexual Assault Unit, is tasked with prosecuting the case. Guerrero remains in custody without bail, facing a maximum sentence of 85 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges.

The arraignment for Guerrero, which took place on August 26th, did not conclude and has been continued to September 22nd. Should the court find him guilty, Guerrero’s conviction will be notably severe due to several special allegations and aggravating factors, including prior strikes under California’s three-strikes law. Among these, the Ventura County District Attorney’s office has cited Guerrero’s background, which includes prior serious or violent felony convictions, as critical in their case against him…
