Gone but not forgotten: San Antonio restaurants that shuttered in August 2025

As August concludes, plenty of folks are already looking forward to spooky season, but for a cohort of San Antonio restaurants, the scariest thing has already happened. Unfortunately, several restaurant closures occurred over the last few weeks, and a couple of announcements clued us into more impending closures in the coming days.

As we step into September, let’s take a look back at the San Antonio restaurants we lost over the course of August 2025.

Pat O’Brien’s

Downtown San Antonio will be down a longtime bar when Pat O’Brien’s serves its final Hurricane in the Alamo City come August 31. The bar has been open in the Alamo City since 2003 as an extension of the original Pat O’Brien’s, which continues to operate in New Orleans.

Bowl & Barrel/The General Public

The Rim shopping center lost two of its dining destinations when both Bowl & Barrel and The General Public shuttered in August. The two concepts are tied to FreeRange Concepts, the hospitality group responsible for The Rustic, which also closed a location at The Rim in 2024.

Bokobá

Less than a year after opening, the upscale Mexican eatery seemingly closed for business sometime in the last few months. MySA reported on the closure in early August, when Google listed Bokobá as “temporarily closed.”

Jim’s Restaurant at Bandera and 1604

The Bandera Road and 1604 location of Jim’s Restaurant turned off the lights on August 19 after 27 years of serving the surrounding community. The business cited changes to the nearby streets as a major accessibility challenge that contributed to the closure.

Thai Cafe

Thai Cafe is another business with 27 years under its belt, having been on Perrin Beitel since the 1990s. The Thai restaurant announced its closure at the beginning of August, though the business did not specify a final closing date.

Burger Boy

The iconic Burger Boy location on the St. Mary’s Strip was forced to temporarily close after a fire that started in the kitchen spread to other parts of the restaurant. A sign has since been hung in front of the restaurant that indicates the OG Burger Boy will undergo some maintenance before reopening down the line…
