PAW PAW, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – In recognition of International Overdose Awareness Day that was August 31 and National Recovery Month in September, the Michigan State Police Paw Paw Post at 43255 60th Avenue will distribute Naloxone starting Tuesday, September 2, during business hours.
Michigan Department of Health and Human Services warned residents about carfentanil, a potent fentanyl variant reemerging in the unregulated drug supply and contributing to overdose deaths. From January to June 2025, 11 deaths involving carfentanil were reported. None tested positive for carfentanil alone; 10 had cocaine, and eight had fentanyl.
These deaths occurred in Ingham, Livingston, Eaton, Genesee, Oakland, and Wayne counties. However, MDHSS and law enforcement officials in southwest Michigan must remain vigilant and proactive due to its own ongoing opioid overdose issues…
