True Texas BBQ serves hungry guests as H-E-B undergoes $17M remodel

First it was UTSA getting a brand-new grocery store. Now the closest H-E-B to the University of Texas at Austin is in the process of a huge facelift. After nearly three years of construction, Longhorn students and the Hyde Park community will have a brand new H-E-B to get groceries next year.

In 2023, H-E-B began a major $17.5 million remodel of its existing Austin store within the Hancock Center in Austin, located at 1000 E 41st St. The initial TDLR filing estimated that the project would be finished by March 2025, but H-E-B confirmed to MySA earlier this year it was delayed to mid fall.

This H-E-B is one of several new multimillion-dollar remodels and stores the grocer is planning for the Austin area.

MySA reached out to H-E-B for an update on the Hancock remodel, since UT Austin’s school year began earlier this week. A spokesperson for the San Antonio-based grocer told us that “due to construction delays the store is expected to be completed in early 2026.”…
