ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – The Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) is asking for the public’s help in raising food for communities in need starting on Labor Day.
Beginning Monday and running through September 11, AFD is hosting its first public 9/11 food drive that will benefit the Food Bank of Alaska. The decision to hold the food drive around this time is because of already established community support for the department.
“We decided to do a food drive around 9/11 because historically we see an increase in citizens, people visiting the fire stations around 9/11 as people think about the events of 2001 and the 343 firefighters who died in New York, people want to connect with their firefighters,” AFD Public Safety Officer Jason Dolph said…
