Activists rally in Norfolk for ‘Workers Over Billionaires’ action day

NORFOLK, Va. — Hundreds of activists gathered in Norfolk on Labor Day for a national day of action called “Workers Over Billionaires,” urging protections for working families and calling out what organizers describe as a billionaire takeover threatening democracy.

The rally, held at Town Point Park along Waterside Drive, is part of Mayday Strong, a nationwide movement staging more than a thousand demonstrations across the country today. Participants are demanding stronger support for social programs like Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, as well as investments in schools and local communities.

Sharon McQeen, chief organizer of the rally, said the goal is to take money out of politics and defend the rights of everyday Americans. “All of those things are being chipped away under this current regime and it’s got to stop,” McQeen said…
