Tennessee Weather Alert: Northern Lights Possible Tonight, Storms Hit Nashville Through Tuesday

Nashville, Tenn. – Residents across Middle Tennessee may witness a rare celestial event tonight as the Northern Lights could appear unusually far south, coinciding with the approach of scattered storms. Those in Nashville and surrounding areas are encouraged to keep an eye on the northern horizon after dark, though visibility may be limited by incoming weather.

Northern Lights Could Appear Over Tennessee

The NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center reports that a powerful coronal mass ejection from the sun is triggering moderate geomagnetic storm activity, making auroras potentially visible as far south as Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee overnight. If skies clear, residents could see colorful green or red ribbons of light before Tuesday sunrise.

“While the aurora is exciting, residents should be cautious outdoors, as scattered thunderstorms are expected late Monday into Tuesday,” officials cautioned.

Motorists along I-40, I-24, and I-65 are advised to remain alert for sudden rainfall and reduced visibility if attempting to view the aurora from roadsides.
