Coastal Marin oyster favorite shuts down, plus more Bay Area restaurant closures

Outstanding taxes forced a Marin County stop for oysters to close, the Point Reyes Light reported. Saltwater Oyster Depot, the only restaurant in unincorporated Inverness, has shut down so its owner Luc Chamberland can pay off hundreds of thousands of dollars in back taxes, as determined in a recent audit, the paper wrote. In the meantime, the California Alcoholic Beverage Control department has suspended the business’ beer and wine license.

Berkeley’s longstanding breakfast institution Rick & Ann’s closed on Aug. 30. Restaurant management announced the news on its website, thanking patrons for 36 years of meals and support. The restaurant originally planned to close the first week of the month, but the outpouring of support led them to push back the date. Rick & Ann’s catering service will continue to operate from a new, larger commissary kitchen.

Nagai Edomae Sushi in Redwood City closed on Aug. 4. The counter served as a stage for chef Tomonori Nagai to offer an omakase with premium cuts of fish. The restaurant, which opened in 2019, thanked its supporters and customers in a parting message on social media.

Jack London Square’s only Mexican restaurant has closed for good. Mia Comida Casera owner Alfonso Dominguez announced the news on Instagram, saying the decision was made after a long consideration. The restaurant opened in December 2023 with a lineup of tacos which included Tijuana-style carne asada on hand-made tortillas and Yucatan-style cochinita pibil. Other popular dishes included burritos, chilaquiles and mezcal cocktails.

San Jose’s Rollati Ristorante, a modern Italian American restaurant, closed on August 26. An Instagram post from management states the closure was planned so that parent company Vine Hospitality can focus on its other restaurants, such as Left Bank Brasserie, in San Jose…
