Amarillo, Texas – Thunderstorms are firing up across the northeastern Texas Panhandle Saturday afternoon, with the greatest threat for severe weather and flooding expected after 5 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, storms have already developed near Perryton, Gruver, and Canadian, bringing heavy downpours and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Forecasters warn that rain intensity will increase into the evening, raising the risk of flash flooding in low-lying areas and along smaller creeks.

Drivers on U.S. 83 and U.S. 287 should be prepared for reduced visibility and water pooling on roadways.
