The new horror film, WEAPONS, is already a box office success, embraced by audiences and critics alike…including me. I’m no fan of horror films, and when I go to see one it’s because I’ve heard it’s more than just another scary movie. WEAPONS fills the bill. It’s well made entertainment with a smart script and a fine cast. Talented writer-director Zach Cregger is a former standup comedian as well as a student of the films of Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick. His movie is a good mystery story that may scare you and make you laugh—sometimes in the same scene. The rapid cutting together of repulsive images in the trailer leads a person to expect a typical horror film. It’s not. (With Julia Garner and Josh Brolin only in theaters)
