Hogwarts Welcomes Back a Familiar Face: Warwick Davis Returns as Professor Flitwick

Warwick Davis, best known for his portrayal of the charming Charms master Professor Filius Flitwick in the “Harry Potter” films, is set to reprise his role in the upcoming HBO Max television series. This marks the first time an actor from the original film franchise will return for the new adaptation, which is slated to premiere in 2027.

Davis expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the wizarding world, stating on social media that it felt like a homecoming. While Davis also played the goblin Griphook in the films, that role will be recast with actor Leigh Gill in the new series.

The announcement, coinciding with the annual “Back to Hogwarts” celebration, was part of a larger wave of casting news. HBO also revealed several other actors joining the series as students and staff, including:

New Hogwarts Students:

  • Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas
  • Finn Stephens as Vincent Crabbe
  • William Nash as Gregory Goyle
  • Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter
  • Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley
  • Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
  • Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy

New Hogwarts Faculty:

  • Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout
  • Richard Durden as Professor Cuthbert Binns
  • Bríd Brennan as Madam Poppy Pomfrey

These new additions join a cast that already includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, among others. The series, adapted from J.K. Rowling’s books, will see Rowling serving as an executive producer alongside David Heyman, Francesca Gardiner, and Mark Mylod.
