August was one of the coolest ever for Greensboro and parts of North Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Unusual. That’s what August was for most of North Carolina. When it comes to the weather, there wasn’t a ton of heat, there were more clouds than usual, and overall, it just wasn’t all that summer-like. We crunched the numbers.

8th Coolest on Record

When we look at the numbers, August was below average for temperatures in most categories. Taking an average of highs and lows, the temperature was 73.5°F for the month. That makes it the 8th coolest month all-time in Greensboro. Records go back to 1903.

The average high for the month was just 81.3 degrees. That’s the second coolest on record, and pretty similar to a typical August in Boston, MA.
