MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) — A significant milestone has been reached in the Mobile Arena project as vertical construction is now underway. The massive red crane on the construction site in downtown Mobile is hard to miss, as it moves structural steel into place. The first steel beams have been set on the 22-acre site where the Mobile Civic Center once stood.
Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the project is progressing on time and on budget. The budget for the project is approximately $300 million, which includes the demolition costs of the Civic Center Arena, Theatre, and Expo Hall, as well as the construction of the new Mobile Arena and the necessary road and utility work to support future developments on the property.
The new arena will feature flexible seating and layouts to accommodate up to 10,000 spectators. The design also includes multiple ballrooms, offering greater flexibility for Mardi Gras balls, local events, and space for conventions…
