Downtown lot sits empty more than a year after bocce court plan approved

Nearly five years after a developer announced plans to tear down a set of dilapidated buildings to make way for a new development, only a pile of rubble remains in an empty lot Downtown.

Michael Troiani – developer and owner of Papa J’s Pizza in the Strip – demolished the four buildings on Market Street and First Avenue last year with city approval to build four bocce courts and a possible pickleball court in their place.

Mr. Troiani introduced plans for the development after a court order blocked an initial proposal for a 30-story office, apartment and retail tower at the site, ending a four-year legal battle between the developer and the city…
