Common gardening tool may soon be banned in one state

Philadelphia lawmakers want to clear the air—and the ears—by silencing the city’s gas-powered leaf blowers.

A new bill called “Nose and Excessive Vibration” introduced by City Councilmember Curtis Jones Jr. would ban gas-powered leaf blowers in the city. This move has been backed by residents, clean energy advocates and landscaping pros, as per The Philadelphia Inquirer. It’s also been championed by Councilmember Jamie Gauthier, chair of the city’s environment committee.  But it isn’t “just about noise.”

“Preparing our city to withstand global warming is perhaps the most important task we have right now,” Gauthier stated at a recent press conference. Philadelphia isn’t the only city to consider this change. Washington, D.C., Arlington and Massachusetts have already enforced similar bans…
