Colorado Springs Mayor Yemi Mobolade recently stepped up to the podium to honor two community stalwarts, Martin Wood and Carlos Jimenez, with the Spirit of Colorado Springs Awards, an accolade that acknowledges individuals who have shown persistent dedication and leadership within the city, as reported by the City of Colorado Springs. Mayor Yemi remarked, “Wood’s unwavering commitment to UCCS and the Colorado Springs community has transformed our local educational landscape and set a standard for what true community dedication looks like,” as per City of Colorado Springs, noting that Wood’s leadership helped secure a whopping $320 million in funding for UCCS, improved its endowment to an impressive near $100 million, and was instrumental in initiating critical public-private partnerships; achievements that include the likes of UCCS Downtown and the Lyda Hill Institute for Human Resilience, and solidifying the university’s reputation in cybersecurity.
