Fleet of 75 scooters coming to Albany for CDTA ‘Scootember’

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Albany community members can catch a ride through the city with the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) scooters throughout September. As part of Scootember, the CDTA will make 75 scooters available to rent, spread across 10 racks in the city.

Community members can begin renting scooters on September 5 through October 5, between 6 a.m. and 12 a.m. The scooters cost $2 to unlock and 25 cents per minute to ride.

“The return of our electric scooter program, SCOOT, in the City of Albany allows us to continue providing a variety of mobility solutions to the community,” CDTA CEO Frank Annicaro said. “We are making improvements while expanding the program, which lets us gain valuable information on how the community utilizes scooters.”

Anyone interested in riding a CDTA scooter will need to make a membership account through a mobile app called “CDTA SCOOT,” where rental fees can also be paid. Renters must be 18 or older and have a valid driver’s license verification for electric scooter rentals.

The scooters can only operate within a specific geofenced area, and any scooters found outside the geofencing or unlocked are subject to a $50 fine. Scooters can also be locked in the riding zone to any fixed public object for $2 convenience fee…
