Oil leak believed to have been contributing factor in vehicle fire near Badger Interchange

MADISON, Wis. — An oil leak is believed to have been a contributing factor in a vehicle fire near the Badger Interchange Monday afternoon, Madison Fire Department officials said.

The fire was reported just after 5:17 p.m. on I-90 eastbound at mile marker 143.8. Crews arrived to find a Hyundai Tucson with no flames showing.

The driver of the Tucson had managed to throw dirt into the engine compartment before crews arrived in order to put out the fire. More flames were found in the lower part of the engine compartment near the exhaust manifold, and a water can was used to put out the rest of the fire…
