Montgomery City Council looking to crack down on short-term rentals

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Some members of the Montgomery City Council believe that the city needs to crack down on short-term rentals, specifically via companies Airbnb and PadSplit.

Airbnb offers short-term rentals for entire properties, while PadSplit functions similar to a college dorm room with customers renting rooms and splitting the use of common areas.

“You have Airbnb’s that are being turned into party homes, and of course Airbnb is going to say that if it’s reported then we’ll remove the listing, but at that point the party is already ongoing,” explained councilmember Andrew Szymanski. “We need to be able to give police the opportunity to go and intervene when we have these types of issues in our neighborhoods.”…
