MCSO: One suspect dead, another arrested, after U-Haul drives into Erie Canal during chase

MURRAY, N.Y. — Monroe County sheriff’s deputies say a suspect is dead and another has been arrested after their U-Haul drove into the Erie Canal during a chase that started with a burglary on Tuesday night.

The van crashed near the border of Monroe and Orleans counties, around the Sans Souci Park. Deputies confirmed on Wednesday morning that they pulled a man’s body from the canal after a search involving multiple fire departments and medical crews. News10NBC’s photojournalist saw crews searching with boats overnight around the partially submerged van.

Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Brendan Hurley said the two men were seen stealing items from the Walgreens in Brockport around 6:30 p.m., loading up the back of a U-Haul truck and heading on Route 19 toward Clarkson…
