City council confusion as mayor Woodfin pardons decades-old domestic violence case

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin has granted a full and unconditional pardon for a third-degree domestic violence conviction dating back nearly 30 years. The pardon was announced during a Birmingham City Council meeting, where it was revealed that the victim, Sofia Smitherman, had submitted a letter expressing her full support for the pardon.
