NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Nearly half of Muslim students in Tennessee say they have been bullied because of their religion, according to a statewide report released Tuesday by the American Muslim Advisory Council (AMAC).
The survey of Muslim families and students found 46% of children reported experiencing faith-based bullying. 68% said teachers rarely intervened.
AMAC’s report also found:
- Three in four parents said they did not know whether their children had been bullied.
- 13% of students reported that teachers or school administrators made offensive comments about Islam at least monthly.
- 37% said adults at school had made them feel uncomfortable because they are Muslim.
