Consumers Energy warns Michigan residents of scams demanding immediate payment

KALAMAZOO, Mich. — Consumers Energy is alerting Michigan customers to be on the lookout for a scam.

According to the company, scammers have been contacting people via phone and email, demanding immediate payment, and making threats that their service will be shut off, the company said in a release.

Customers receiving these types of calls and emails are also being directed to pay using prepaid debit cards or gift cards.
