HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County police were called to Carolina Forest Elementary last week after a special needs students wandered away from a playground, according to an incident report.
An officer responded to the school around noon on Thursday for a possible child neglect call, the document says. When they arrived, they were told the student “eloped from an unassigned playground” as he and his classmates were being taken to the cafeteria for lunch by a teacher. No one noticed he was gone until the children sat down to eat.
The officer declined to file charges over what was determined to be a “policy violation.” District standards allow a 15:1 ratio for students with IQs between 50 and 70 — within the range of the child that walked off, the incident report says…
