New law requires every school bus to have cameras by 2032

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A new Rhode Island law now requires every school district in the state to equip its buses with live video monitoring systems to catch drivers who illegally pass them when they are stopped.

Providence, North Providence, Warwick and Cumberland already have the systems installed on their buses. Collectively, they’ve issued nearly 7,500 violations to drivers since last November.

The most violations were recorded in Providence. Since the cameras went live back in October 2024, the capital city has issued 7,188 violations…
