TDOT starts safety review of well-traveled Chattanooga bridge as residents remain uneasy

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn — The Tennessee Department of Transportation is inspecting the safety of a well traveled bridge in Chattanooga as they prepare to completely rebuild it.

Drivers have previously shared their concerns about driving across the Wilcox Boulevard bridge, which shows noticeable signs of wear and tear.

In 2022 the City of Chattanooga announced plans to rebuild the bridge, but three years later, the work has yet to begin.

What has changed in that time is a new weight limit on the bridge: 13 tons for two axle trucks and 23 tons for three axle trucks…
