Durham has landed a new voice to lead its communications strategy. City Manager Bo Ferguson has officially appointed Amy Blalock as the new communications director for the City of Durham, an announcement that arrived on the city’s official news page. Blalock’s not new to the scene—she’s got over two decades of municipal communications experience, and she’s been a familiar name in the city’s halls for nearly 22 years.

There’s more to Blalock’s appointment than just continuity. After taking the reins as acting director post-June following Beverly Thompson’s retirement, Blalock has made sure to smoothly keep pushing to inform and engage the local community. “Throughout her career, Amy has shown a deep commitment to open and proactive communication,” Ferguson praised, hinting at her track record. Now, Blalock is set to manage a team of 10, a squad responsible for getting the word out to Durham’s denizens through various mediums, be it social media or television broadcast services, as per the City of Durham’s official news page.
