Two people killed in crash on the Owensboro Bypass

OWENSBORO, Ky. (WEHT) — Two people are dead and one is in critical condition after a crash on the Owensboro Bypass.

A release from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office says two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision. A preliminary investigation indicates that an eastbound passenger car lost control just prior to the Highway 54 off ramp and overcorrected, crossed the median, and struck a westbound pickup truck head on.

The release goes on to say upon impact, the passenger car caught fire. Both vehicles sustained catastrophic damage. The driver of the pickup truck had to be extricated by firefighters once the fire was extinguished and was taken by helicopter to a Louisville hospital. The driver and passenger of the sedan were both killed in the collision.

The roadway was closed for approximately five hours and reopened at 9:15 p.m. Officials with the sheriff’s department say the investigation into the crash is ongoing…
