EMBARCADERO — Parachute Bakery, the first half of a bakery-restaurant combo opened by the Michelin-starred Sorrel team, is now open at the Ferry Building, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Led by Nasir Armar, formerly of Sorrel and Saison, the bakery opened on Thursday, September 4, serving laminated pastries, canelés, Basque cheesecake, and more. Drinks include Linea Coffee, salted cream einspänner, and fresh juices and smoothies. Arquet, the restaurant half of the equation, is expected to open later in the fall. CHINATOWN — Sam Wo was Chinatown’s oldest restaurant when it closed down in January 2025 after 116 years in business, shutting down when chef and owner David Ho decided to retire once the restaurant’s lease expired. Now, the restaurant is returning as of Friday, September 5, with new investors, a new chef that’s been trained by Ho, and plenty of the classics from the old menu, per the San Francisco Chronicle. A few new dishes will be added to the menu such as har gow and siu mai.
