The Verona Police Department (VPD) is reminding the public of fraud warning signs after the successful prevention of a telephone scam that would’ve cost a victim $8,000.
According to a VPD news release, a Verona officer learned a neighboring agency was investigating a telephone scam on Thursday, Aug. 28 where a fraudulent caller posed as a law enforcement “deputy.” The scammer instructed the victim to withdraw a large sum of money from their bank account, threatening them with a citation if they did not comply.
