MARION COUNTY, Ore. (KATU) — Community members filled a Marion County Commission meeting on Wednesday to protest a lawsuit the county filed in August 2025 after receiving federal subpoenas from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“We’re here to affirm that we expect our local government to abide by the Constitution, and if the Constitution is being violated by ICE or anyone else, we expect the county to protect our citizens against those who are doing the violating,” said Peter Bergel, a Salem resident who asked the commissioners to drop the lawsuit.
On Aug. 1, ICE filed administrative subpoenas to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office requesting information about individuals on parole.
