Former State Police PBA leader may face criminal charges

ALBANY — State Trooper Thomas H. Mungeer, who was formerly president of the New York State Troopers Police Benevolent Association, may face criminal charges in connection with a long-running investigation into financial misconduct allegations involving the spending, expenses and compensation of former leaders of the union, according to two people briefed on the matter.

Mungeer, 56, resigned as president of the PBA in October 2022 amid a leadership shakeup of the PBA. He exited the position as questions mounted about the finances of the union that represents thousands of current and former state troopers. He subsequently returned to duty at Troop F in Middletown after undergoing refresher training at the State Police Academy, and has been largely assigned to a post at Stewart International Airport, according to State Police sources.
