Its been two years since a gunman drove from Clay County to a Jacksonville Dollar General on Kings Road. On August 26, 2023, 52-year old Angela Carr, 19-year-old A.J. Laguerre, Jr. and 29-year-old Jerald Gallion were senselessly shot and killed in the racially-motivated shooting that the Federal Bureau pf Investigation declared a hate crime. The anniversary of the senseless shooting did not go unnoticed. Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman, in collaboration with the City of Jacksonville, 904Ward, The Community Foundation, and the A. L. Lewis Black Opportunity & Impact Fund, hosted the 3rd Memorial Ceremony honoring the victims and survivors of the tragic Dollar General shooting.
The ceremony featured reflections from community leaders, faith representatives, and families, offering a space of remembrance, healing, and unity. This annual memorial honors the lives lost and survivors impacted by the tragic Dollar General shooting.
