MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – The state of Florida has become the first state to ban vaccine mandates for schoolchildren.
School children in Alabama are required to present a certificate of immunization, formerly known as a blue card, for school entry according to Alabama law. Karen Landers, chief medical director at the Alabama Department of Public Health, says this requirement has been in place for decades.
“Vaccine rules and mandates have existed for many, many years, actually, we can go far back at least until the 70s, and look at individual information related to vaccines at that time,” Landers said. “Not all childhood vaccines are required in Alabama; they never have been.”…
