An Orange County neighborhood was rocked early last Saturday morning when a mailbox exploded in the Whisper Lakes community, scattering debris and inciting fear among residents. According to FOX 35 Orlando, the explosion occurred around 5:30 a.m., with surveillance footage showing a small black car leaving the scene immediately afterward. The blast, which is presumed by residents to have been caused by a firework, inflicted damage on yards and vehicles.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has not yet identified suspects nor confirmed the exact nature of the explosive device. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service has now become involved, recognizing the incident as a potential federal crime. While it remains unclear whether this act was a result of random vandalism or a targeted strike against the community, investigators are taking the incident seriously as it is part of a worrying trend of vandalism in the area that has included spray-painted houses and smashed car windows.
Neighbors have reported feeling shaken by the event, with one resident telling WESH, “We heard a big crash. It sounded like a plane or a car hit something, so we immediately ran out.” The homeowner’s family, which includes a 94-year-old woman, was particularly distressed. Her granddaughter expressed a newfound fear: “Now I’m kind of scared to get my mail, stick my hand in the mailbox. Something could be there.”…
