‘Frozen to death’: Assisted living facility employees left 73-year-old woman in unheated room with the windows open during historic winter storm, indictment says

A 73-year-old disabled woman froze to death in an unheated room with open windows while staff at an Austin, Texas, assisted living facility ignored her plight during a historic winter storm.

Harvest Renaissance – Austin, LLC’s Executive Director Mendi Ramsay and Wellness Director Rochelle Alvarado were indicted for injury to an elderly person, the Travis County District Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday. The company itself was also charged.

Cynthia Pierce, 73, was inside the Renaissance Austin Assisted Living Facility on Feb. 17, 2021, as Winter Storm Uri caused power outages in the area, but was not properly cared for, the district attorney’s office claims, citing multiple alleged failures…
