Man charged in police shooting now indicted with 2020 murder in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) — A man who was at the center of a police shooting last year is now accused of murdering someone when he was 15 years old.

Alijah Archuleta faced a judge again on Wednesday afternoon in connection to the case that led to a police shooting. In a 911 call from March 2024, the caller stated “my daughter had an incident yesterday and the police were involved.” That prompted Albuquerque police to start looking for Archuleta, who at the time, was accused of arguing with his girlfriend and refusing to let her and their one-year-old son leave his car. Police say Archuleta eventually let them go, but fired shots at the mom and son as they tried to go into their northeast home. A day later, police found him at the same home.

APD officers Nathien Apodaca and Hernan Conchas arrived, finding Archuleta getting into a car with three others. Internal affairs is investigating both officers for shooting at the fleeing car. APD says officer Apodaca returned to full duty shortly after, while officer Conchas was on leave as late as May 2024. Meanwhile, Archuleta pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and false imprisonment last October. He’s now back in the courtroom after getting kicked out of the young adult court program…
