Coxsackie, NY (WRGB) — A 20-year-old inmate at Coxsackie Correctional Facility assaulted two sergeants and three officers during a cell search on August 30, NYSCOPBA said. The inmate, serving a 20-year-to-life sentence for murder, initially refused to leave his cell, prompting staff to remove him for a contraband search.
According to a release, after exiting his cell, the inmate was handcuffed and escorted to the infirmary, where he became non-compliant and headbutted a sergeant. The sergeant and two officers restrained him and continued the escort. In the infirmary hallway, the inmate resisted again, punching an officer in the head and neck. Staff restrained him and discovered two sharpened metal shanks hidden in his pants.
The injured staff were treated for various injuries, including neck, shoulder, and arm pain, but remained on duty. A subsequent cell search found no additional contraband…
