Hendersonville City Council revokes $3,000 grant after Only Hope found to be unlicensed

Members of Hendersonville’s city government expressed regret for having awarded funding to an organization that was later revealed to be unlicensed to work with children, saying they believed at the time that it was licensed.

Hendersonville City Council revoked $3,000 in nonprofit funding allocated for the group Only Hope WNC, which provides services to homeless children and teens and, until recently, ran a residential shelter to house them.

Only Hope WNC’s founder and former CEO, Michael Absher, a former Henderson County School Board member, was arrested in July and now faces 11 counts of sex offenses against children…
