‘People need help’: Charlottesville’s Afghan community responds to earthquake

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) – Members of the Afghan community in Charlottesville are calling for support as Afghanistan grapples with the aftermath of a devastating 6.0 earthquake and powerful aftershocks.

The International Rescue Committee is warning of what it says is an “escalating humanitarian emergency” in Afghanistan, with the death toll rising to more than 2,000 people. Many more, they say, are displaced or injured by the deadliest natural disaster the nation has seen in years.
