South Alabama’s med school expansion reaches midpoint

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — The University of South Alabama celebrated a major milestone Thursday, as construction on the Frederick P. Whiddon College of Medicine reached its halfway point.

Dignitaries, community leaders, and medical students gathered for a beam signing ceremony, adding their names to the final vertical beam before it was put into place.

The 250,000-square-foot facility is being built with more than 2,000 tons of steel.
