Los Angeles, California – A Ventura professor is facing federal charges after authorities say he hurled a tear gas canister back at Border Patrol agents during a raid on a marijuana farm in Camarillo this summer.
Jonathan Caravello, 37, a faculty member at California State University Channel Islands, was indicted this week on one count of assaulting a federal officer with a deadly or dangerous weapon. He was released on a $15,000 bond and is expected to be arraigned in Los Angeles federal court in the coming weeks.
The case stems from a July 10 operation by Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Border Patrol, who were executing what they described as a high-risk search warrant on a sprawling 160-acre marijuana farm in Camarillo.
